What you’ll need
3 pounds ground beef chuck
Hamburger buns (Link to recipe below)
Salt
Bacon fat
Salted butter
Sliced American cheese
Ice berg lettuce
Tomato
Sliced pickles
1 yellow onion
Mayonnaise
Ketchup
Preparation of ingredients
Onion
Step 1- Cut half of a yellow onion into slices and separate the onion rings from the slices and set aside.
Lettuce
Step 2- Remove 2 leaves off of the head of the iceberg lettuce and rinse with cold water. Also rinse the tomato with cold water as well.
Tomato
Step 3- Slice tomato into 4- two sixteenths of an ice thick slice and set aside.
Hamburger buns
Step 4- Slice 1/2 inch from the bottom of the hamburger bun to separate the bottom and top portion of the hamburger bun using a serrated knife. Brush melted butter onto the top and bottom portions of the hamburger bun and set aside.
Preheat fire to medium heat.
Step 5- Heat a cast iron skillet for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the Hamburger buns into the skillet and let toast for 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside to cool.
Ground beef patties
Step 6- Add 3 pounds ground beef chuck, 1 tablespoon bacon fat and 1 1/2 teaspoons salt into a large bowl. Mix all ingredients together with your hands and set aside.
Forming the ground beef patties
Step 7- Spread 1/2 teaspoon bacon fat or butter onto a flat surface or chopping board. Place 8 to 9 ounces in weight of the ground beef onto the flat surface and pat down with your hands until the thickness is 2 or 3 sixteenths of an inch thickness. Make 4 indentations on the ground beef. Each indentation is 7 by 7 inches part. Cut through the indentations with a sharp knife, forming a square. Remove the excess ground beef and set aside.
Cooking the ground beef patties
Preheat fire to medium heat.
Note- Frying times vary depending on the size and thickness of the ground beef patty. Once done, you should have 6 cooked hamburger patties total.
Step 8- Heat cast iron skillet for 2 to 3 minutes. Add ground beef patty into the skillet and let cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Transfer cooked ground beef patties onto a serving dish and let cool until warm.
Assembling the cheeseburger
Step 9- Add the bottom portion of the hamburger bun onto a serving dish, followed by 3 hamburger patties with 1 slice of American cheese on top of each patty.
Step 10- Add iceberg lettuce, slices of tomato, sliced pickles, and onion rings onto of ground beef patties.
Step 11- Spread mayonnaise and drizzle ketchup onto the top portion of the hamburger bun. Place the top portion of the hamburger bun on top of the onion rings and serve.
