Orange Pound cake from scratch

What you’ll need
All-Purpose Flour
Sugar
Baking powder
Unsalted butter (Room temp)
5 large eggs (Room temp)
Sour Cream (Room temp)
One medium sized orange
Orange Gel paste food coloring
Orange extract
Vanilla extract
Whole milk
Confectioners’ sugar

Tools you’ll need
Baker’s joy non-stick baking spray
Nordic ware anniversary Bundt pan
Grater/zester
Cake sifter
Citrus juicer
Hand or Stand mixer

Preparation of ingredients
Step 1- Add 3 Cups All-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon baking powder. Sift ingredients into large bowl and stir.

Step 2- Add 3 sticks unsalted butter (Room temp) and 3 cups sugar. Blend ingredients on high speed for 5 minutes. Scrape down sides of bowl throughout the mixing process.

Step 3- Add 5 large eggs (Room temp) one at a time while mixing on a medium low speed. Mix until eggs are incorporated. Careful not to over mix.

Step 4- Rinse, zest and cut your orange in half. Juice both halves of the orange with the citrus juicer. You should have 1/3 Cup of orange juice when your done.

Step 5- Add 1/3 Cup Orange zest, 1/3 Cup Orange juice, 1 Tablespoon Orange extract, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon orange gel paste food coloring. Mix all ingredients on a medium low speed until combined.

Alternating the All-Purpose Flour mixture and sour cream into the batter
Step 6-Add 1 Cup All Purpose flour mixture and 1/2 Cup sour cream. Mix all ingredients on medium low speed until combined.

Step 7-Add 1 Cup All Purpose flour mixture and 1/4 Cup sour cream. Mix all ingredients on medium low speed until combined.

Step 8- Add 1 Cup All Purpose flour mixture and 1/4 Cup sour cream. Mix all ingredients on medium low speed until combined.

***Spray Bundt pan with non-baking spray***
***Preheat oven to 325 degrees***

Step 9- Add Orange cake batter into Bundt pan. To make the batter more even take a back of a spoon and spread batter around baking pan as evenly as possible. Shake the pan slightly and tap it on to your table.

Step 10- Place into a preheated 325-degree oven for 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Step 11- Remove cake out of oven. Toothpick inserted should come out clean. Let the cake cool completely. Once done flip the cake over.

Making the Orange icing
Step 12- Add 1 1/4 Cup confectioners’ sugar, 3 tablespoons melted unsalted butter, 3 tablespoons warm whole milk, 1/4 teaspoon orange extract and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract. Stir all ingredients until mixture is creamy and smooth with no visible lumps.

Step 13- Add the tip of a toothpick into the gel paste food coloring. Swirl the toothpick into the prepared icing. Stir until the icing is bright orange color.

Step 14- Pour icing on top of cake. Let icing set for 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
